2006 The origins
Andén 1 began back on March 25th, 2006, when a group of railroad system supporters came up with the idea of creating an Association which was a meeting point for people interested in the history and evolution of the Metro of Madrid.

That idea took shape in the following months. On May 14th a website where our project could develop and where information and images could be shown was designed. We could say that that day was the birth of what the Association was to become in the future.
Different matters including that of our association's name were discussed on the website over the following months. On June 1st it was approved that it would be "Andén 1" - Platform 1.
Nevertheless, the final step of the foundation of the association was taken on August 19th 2006. That day we met for the very first time and set the base of the Association. We were barely 14 people at that time but we were convinced of the viability of the project. We were so excited about the meeting that we started working on the project the very next day. The main aims of Andén 1 are to promote the entertaining and cultural aspects related to the underground network and to encourage the use of public transport.
In the following months Andén 1 promoted those entertaining aspects by visiting the new Metro sections, the Railway Museum in Arganda del Rey and the EMT depot or by organizing a photograph marathon. These activities where combined with the necessary bureaucratic paper work for the complete consolidation of the association. On September 17th, La Asociación de Amigos del metro de Madrid, Andén 1 – Friends of the underground system of Madrid -was finally created .
At the end of the year, Andén 1 took its final step of the construction process with the election of the board of directors that would be at the head of the Association during 2007.
